DEC TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to the Undying Court Test Drive Meme! This post will allow players to test drive their AU characters in the setting, as well as meet fresh faces or even connect with those they have preexisting CR with. As with anything involved in the setting, this post will likely contain: violence, enthrallment, torture, and sexual content.

Regarding continuity, all TDM threads can be taken as in-game canon if desired. Please keep in mind that the game proper will begin in mid December, in the Winter Season, so Students/Novices should create their prompts under the assumption that the TDM takes place during the season prior to the one they will be apping as. This means that students planning to app as first season novices will be visiting Castle Courtsheart prior to their Beginning. In other words, if you plan to app a student as a second season, the TDM will take place during their first, and so on.

NEW ARRIVALS

New arrivals will be starting their first season in the winter, but they're welcomed to the castle early, under the watchful eyes of the Silver Court. Upon arrival, they will be shown to a room by a human whose eyes glow softly from within, with vacant smiles. Thralls. There, the human thralls will draw them a bath and bring them new clothes to wear to their first meeting. These are rich, expensive things made of high quality fabric. Whether it's a silk dress and a heavy velvet cowl, or a fine pants and a vest made from a brocade, the servants will provide. The new initiate's old clothes will be burned after, in a symbol of the life they are leaving behind. If they are hungry, they will be provided food. If they need anything at all, they need only ask their new servants.

Later that night they are taken to a grand hall, with high arched ceilings and candles burning in chandeliers. There are figures painted overhead, beautiful and entwined. Some have their eyes are colored to match the courts, others are gracefully placed in their death, with blood dripping from necks and wrists.

Balconies line the hall behind a forest of pillars, and vampires all watch as the group walk through (some more hungrily than others).

"Welcome to your first undying season, initiates," a pale, silver-haired vampire calls. They have silver eyes are clad in silver robes, but command the attention of everyone in attendance. They have a beauty that seems neither male nor female. They are standing at the center of a wide semi-circle of other vampires, "As the Silver Court's acting voice at this end of the Autumn season, allow me to introduce you to the Houses that will be your new homes."

The vampire, Revar, gives the newcomers an overview of all of the courts—Blue, Red, Gold, Silver, and Black—and then invites those already claimed by their Courts to join the vampires who will be their Makers.

Revar offers the Foundlings who are left a gentle, knowing smile, and then allows them to be chosen. They are like the last sheep left at the auction, and the vampires who take them may not be the enthused about it. Nevertheless, Revar waits patiently until all have found a maker.

Now that they are paired up it is expected—indeed, required—that the initiate drink from their maker. That is their Beginning. Only once they have truly begun can they can be considered novices.

AUTUMN NOX

Silver Court is in season and for the Autumn Nox it holds a large symposium, inviting all the best vampire minds from around lands nearby and far. The whole castle is abuzz with new activity. The stables are packed full of horses, carriages litter the grounds, but somehow the castle has enough rooms to house all the new arrivals.

Novices will find that some of these vampires have not seen a human-novice in a very, very long time. These vampires might see the human-novices more like specimens, curious about their every move. They won't bite, but novices may find themselves observed as they wander the castle and its grounds.

The symposium itself is open to anyone at the castle. Scholars can present on any topic at all. Novices will find that these range from the incredibly mundane (you've always wanted to attend a history of bottom-feeding river fish, haven't you?) to the truly fascinating (new insights into how vampire hearts work) to the downright strange (the symposium has a range of lectures very close to dawn about the sharing of vampire...fluids). Seasoned novices with their own Autumn classes to attend are expected to keep up with their studies, but some teachers may let them out of a session to attend the lectures and workshops of the symposium.

The Silver Court vampires are incredibly busy between running the symposium and trying to help the new novices get settled in. They may need some volunteers to lend a hand with setting up rooms or helping scholars find their way around. In fact, volunteers might find themselves leading scholars down to the second kitchen for a bite to eat, a strong reminder that even these demure learners are still monsters who must drink blood.

PUMPKINS-GONE-WILD

The symposium isn't all that the autumn season brings. The Silver Court’s talents are on display in other ways—sometimes not in ways another had particularly hoped. An overly zealous youngblood in the Silver Court tried to grow a few extra pumpkins for the occasion and ended up with a few too many! The pumpkin vines break out of the green house and start sprouting pumpkins everywhere. These are no ordinary pumpkins, they will sprout and grow and become fully formed in the course of a night. Better keep an eye out for those vines or else your room might become full of pumpkins! Luckily, the pumpkins aren’t rotting any time soon (they’ll last until winter, or so the Silver Court vampires are saying), but it can be pretty inconvenient for them to grow everywhere. Start cutting those vines to pieces, and hope they don’t try to entangle you in the process.

LIBRARY CLEAN-UP

Meanwhile, with all the scholars in town are making a mess of the library, much to the Silver Court vampire’s dismay. Books are being checked out and not checked back in, passed around from scholar to scholar. You might find those lost books just about anywhere. Who was reading in a tree? Anyone who collects the books and returns them to the library is sure to get a little bit of favor with the librarians, and it’s never a bad thing to have a bit of an in with a Court. If you’re worried about failing Silver Court, it’s time to get searching! Although how you’re going to convince a 300 year old vampire that time is not fake and that deadlines are real (and in fact were two days ago) is anyone’s guess.

UNETHICAL EXPRIMENTS

[CW: Torture, experiments]

Those who venture towards the basement might hear something a little different than normal. The thralls who spend their time down there are normally quiet, commanded to keep silent and pleasant for the vampires they serve. But with the arrival of the new scholars comes disquieting, inhuman screams from the darker reaches of the basement. Novices trying to catch a glimpse will be chased away, but teachers might be invited to watch as these vampires experiment on one another, all in the name of science. What’s a little torture, when you’re undying?

[ Help couldn't have come at a more opportune time. Hilda had somehow found herself tasked with trying to lug several bottles of blood wine to a lecture hall for a teacher but had made the silly mistake of thinking she could do it all in one stubborn trip.

Maybe this was a test of some sort. Some sort of odd, extra credit work to get someone else to do the job for her. Whatever it is, she's not having a great time because everyone else seems too preoccupied being studious to notice a hapless maiden. Except it seems another maiden. Before Hilda can gasp in abject horror at a very precarious bottle of blood wine tumbling to the ground, the shattering of glass never comes.

Her eyes brim with genuine gratitude towards the young woman. ]

That's what I get for trying to carry everything all at once, huh? I'd love some help if you aren't too busy.

Seems like the sort of mess you'd have to get used to if you wanted this kind of life.

[he scratches his neck absently, just a little itch, right against his vein]

No use denying the hunger if it comes, right? No use not indulging, or learning how.

Then it can be our little secret, can't it?

[ The three of them and...whoever was actually giving this lecture. But obviously Astarion is more interested in the subject and Lydia than the person sitting off to the side reading their notes while Astarion ties knots. ]

Shall I do you next, then?

[As soon he saw a teacher, he was prepared to slink back away and try again. But Astarion doesn't actually look interested in chasing him away. Oh, score. He can actually creep closer and listen.

And he grins at Astarion's assessment.]

I bet it's because they bottle it up so tightly. They have to let it out all at once, hidden away... What a shame, huh?

It's only undeniable if you've been starving yourself. Hasn't your maker taught you that much?

[ Or, like, anything? It used to be easier to keep track of which novices went with which makers, he thinks. Or maybe he's just been doing this for too long now. ]

But I'd get in so much less trouble if I just go find a thrall. A pity. You have a strong pulse.

[ This is....a compliment? ]

I didn't say it had to be undeniable. I said there's no use denying it. [he lets his hand slide down his vein and rest just above his collar, an almost casual gesture]

If you want something you should take it. Otherwise what's the point? [a smirk] Unless you're afraid of...trouble.

[ Astarion thinks she's missed the innuendo completely, but he just smiles sweetly, not missing a beat. ]

Maybe it will be and maybe it won't be. Mine was certainly a night I'll never forget.

[ Still, if she's responding to him, she must want to know something. That's much better than the Foundlings who simply cower in fear. ]

Are you nervous?

[ Clumsy typically isn't the name of the game for Hilda. Raised in the Gold Court meant an absurd amount of lessons about decorum, dancing - anything that would make one an attractive prospect for a maker. But lessons so rarely included what to do when faced with vines that snaked and coiled faster than any dance partner she'd had to contend with.

Is it entirely possible that she had turned down this hallway, seen the vines and a man with red hair cutting them down, thought that he'd had it handled and was about to merrily turn on her heel down a different hallway to leave him to it? Yes. Absolutely.

But the vines had other plans. Diluc will hear a yelp, the sound of a body being dragged across the ground and be met with Hilda hanging upside down by her ankle, furiously patting down her skirts to avoid flashing anyone. ]

Can you tell them to mind me instead? This is so rude!

(Hey yo, evidently I missed your post in the AU workshop, but if you still want a maker for Red shenanigans, I do have this chaos gremlin.)

[Someone has a particular liking for ending up wandering and napping in the weirdest of spots. Which is exactly why Lydia's a little... confused upon waking up from her nap on one of the library banisters and noticing that there's a student down below. Normally this area of the library tended to stay pretty free of any bodies, but it seemed someone else had had the idea of catching a nap where many people wouldn't tread.

Did she really want to move? Ehhh, not particularly. But having snatched a book up earlier before retreating to her perched position, it doesn't take her long to hurl the book at a nearby table, making certain to avoid hitting her but putting full force on the table to hopefully scare her awake.]

Pretty sure that's not what you're supposed to be doing in here, darling~ [Says the hypocrite that was just doing the same mere moments ago.]

Far from it.

[ Xenk smiles, gold eyes approving. He'd be just as hard on his students if his classes involved physical violence. He's glad to see Fenris doing such good work. ]

You do your Court a service.

[ Is there disdain in his tone? No. It's. He's being normal! Totally. But he does give Fenris a wide berth, purposely out of striking range for all that he knows Fenris could kill him quite easily. ]

Either that, or they forget how much they like it when they're buried in all those books.

[ Silver Court...so boring, usually. ]

Never underestimate a pent-up librarian.

[ Xenk smirks. See, his sense of humor is bad!! He thinks he's so funny. ]

If it achieves the desired results...

[ He knows it won't. He should know better. He does not. ]

Would you prefer I called you a cat, for luring prey into this trap of yours?

[Elias notices this one is a new novice even before catching sight of her warm dark eyes, just from the way she thanks the thralls. It makes things a little awkward for him, knowing that at the moment she's almost as human as the servants are.]

It's the most that can be done for now, I'm afraid. It would be rude to rebuke the visiting guests for anything.

We just have to watch them to make sure they don't get themselves into too much trouble.

[Perhaps, or perhaps finding use for a poor vintage that would spare someone's tongue, Harlock had rather refined taste for someone of his social class.]

Good to know - weird bunch, swear one of them is a bear wearing people clothes.

[Another look around the room, it seems unlikely there's a hidden door in the kitchen...]

[ Astarion is quiet for a moment, apparently weighing the option presented to him but then he just laughs. He is, after all, a Red Court vampire who teaches seduction. ]

I'll give you points for being cute, at least. What's your angle here? Do you just enjoy being bitten, or are you and your Maker fighting?

[ Oh no, help him! Hans turns back around, pleading even more pathetic now. ]

Come on, you seem like a strong guy. I'm sure I can do you a favor down the line. What do you say?

Oh, I had no intentions of telling them any of what I heard, that's not my place. As far as I'm aware, I heard nothing.

[For good reason and she can't blame him, she's pretty much entirely ignored the existence of the nerd with their notes in the corner. Such is the problem when it comes to Reds, especially when being tempted with such a lovely predicament.]

If only there wouldn't be some stuffy homebody that would come in here and get all up in arms about how this is supposed to be a lecture~ [Her voice is all sickeningly sweet and honeyed at this point, a grin never once leaving her lips.] But if you're offering elsewhere, I wouldn't say no. [It's not the public part that bothers her, just the urge to avoid the inevitable bitching.]

Or are you just teasing poor ol' little me with a good time?

[The novice growl as he's suddenly jerked back, his eyes narrowing first at Edward then down the hall as another scream rang out. He speaks in a slow, measured voice.]

What are they doing down there?

[ Some people are too busy absorbing all the details of this grand hall and what's effectively the first steps of a new world for them. There's even some times when Eden nudges to point out the added painting of colors to the statue's eyes (which, understandably, most of the new arrivals are too preoccupied with everything else to care about that.) There's curiosity with noting the way each court's vampires had eyes that matched the color- and a small distraction about which kind of animal was used for some of the leathers. ~~Occupational hazard.~~

The most worrying thought, which still wasn't seditious or anything, was Eden hoping that no one was too bothered by her smuggling her 'harvesting knife' with her, having tucked it into her wide suede belt. Sentimentality for the past can't be such a bad thing, right?

The harvest knife may not be an actual harvesting knife, but the teen certainly thinks of it as such. ]

[he grins]

Just seeing how well you play the game. One day I'll be like you, you know. It's good to know who your friends are.

[This is precisely why he gets teased and tormented, because his humor is terrible. What an actual nerd.

She huffs loudly in response, though still very much holding onto the book before stretching on her current perch.]

And here I thought I would be called a cat for more than just traps, how disappointing. Though why do you want this book? It's not like it's actually important or anything.

[ Thankfully it's that small pile of books being bundled into her arms that saves her from a tongue lashing or whatever other sort of reprimanding may come from her not being able to stop herself from making a face. Or maybe it isn't. Her eyebrow still hasn't quite settle back into place after raising at the sudden task that she frankly doesn't really want to do.

Whatever the outcome, she does manage to arrange her features back into something a little more sheepish even as she cradles the books to her chest. Is this helping or hurting the delicate flower thing she has going on? ]

Actually professor, I was hoping I could chat with you about the assignment you gave us the other day.

[ Hans turns to her, almost having missed her entirely with how many books were stacked high on this table. ]

I'm awful at identifying plants. I think I might be colorblind? There's gotta be something.

[ He is not colorblind. But he's also staring at a book with a weird diagram in it. Like maybe it's a tree? Or a weird lizard, hard to tell. ]

I thought maybe one of these books might have some tricks, you know? Silver Court won't be impressed if I don't ace this season's course.

[Well he doesn't so much catch Edward's eye as he catches Edward's general...Edward. Looking into Ed's eyes-- well he knows what he'll find there, what he always finds there these days- which is to say a horrible bleakness as if Izzy isn't enough anymore. No matter what Izzy has done, no matter how much Izzy has done, Ed is gone, checked out, left the building.

But fine. Whatever. He doesn't care. This is his chance. His chance for something new. His chance for something he'd always wanted. At last. Finally. So he makes his way to Ed feeling a bit like a blushing bride which is absolutely ridiculous and is sweating profusely by the time he gets there, blood ringing in his ears, hands shaking minutely.]

W-well it's... it's... finally here... I... how do we do this then? Where? I ...I came prepared. [and he fumbles a little tumbler from his shirt, trying not to drop it]

I'm sure it's definitely memorable for everyone.

[ It's a very easy thing to believe, and given the way that Eden likes to keep her demeanor, she likes people believing she misses innuendos as well. ~~While, in all honesty, it's because she doesn't know how to otherwise respond to or return it.~~ ]

I don't know if it counts for being nervous. So many seem to have been chosen before coming here. What exactly is picked up on that has teachers choose the remaining that just came here because of a feather? Does everyone really just wait until every single person is chosen?
