Test Drive Meme - New Blood

DEC TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to the Undying Court Test Drive Meme! This post will allow players to test drive their AU characters in the setting, as well as meet fresh faces or even connect with those they have preexisting CR with. As with anything involved in the setting, this post will likely contain: violence, enthrallment, torture, and sexual content.

Regarding continuity, all TDM threads can be taken as in-game canon if desired. Please keep in mind that the game proper will begin in mid December, in the Winter Season, so Students/Novices should create their prompts under the assumption that the TDM takes place during the season prior to the one they will be apping as. This means that students planning to app as first season novices will be visiting Castle Courtsheart prior to their Beginning. In other words, if you plan to app a student as a second season, the TDM will take place during their first, and so on.

Feel free to brush up on the Premise, Vampire Powers, and head over to the FAQ/Game Info page if you have any questions!

  • Make sure you are aware of the Rules when posting your top-level. (Content warnings are always welcome!)
  • Please format your Top-level in this format: Character Name (AU Name if different) | Canon | Teacher/Student | Court
  • As a reminder, a Test Drive sample is required in order to app.
  • If you have any questions specific to the TDM, ask them in the Questions thread below!

New arrivals will be starting their first season in the winter, but they're welcomed to the castle early, under the watchful eyes of the Silver Court. Upon arrival, they will be shown to a room by a human whose eyes glow softly from within, with vacant smiles. Thralls. There, the human thralls will draw them a bath and bring them new clothes to wear to their first meeting. These are rich, expensive things made of high quality fabric. Whether it's a silk dress and a heavy velvet cowl, or a fine pants and a vest made from a brocade, the servants will provide. The new initiate's old clothes will be burned after, in a symbol of the life they are leaving behind. If they are hungry, they will be provided food. If they need anything at all, they need only ask their new servants.

Later that night they are taken to a grand hall, with high arched ceilings and candles burning in chandeliers. There are figures painted overhead, beautiful and entwined. Some have their eyes are colored to match the courts, others are gracefully placed in their death, with blood dripping from necks and wrists.

Balconies line the hall behind a forest of pillars, and vampires all watch as the group walk through (some more hungrily than others).

"Welcome to your first undying season, initiates," a pale, silver-haired vampire calls. They have silver eyes are clad in silver robes, but command the attention of everyone in attendance. They have a beauty that seems neither male nor female. They are standing at the center of a wide semi-circle of other vampires, "As the Silver Court's acting voice at this end of the Autumn season, allow me to introduce you to the Houses that will be your new homes."

The vampire, Revar, gives the newcomers an overview of all of the courts—Blue, Red, Gold, Silver, and Black—and then invites those already claimed by their Courts to join the vampires who will be their Makers.

Revar offers the Foundlings who are left a gentle, knowing smile, and then allows them to be chosen. They are like the last sheep left at the auction, and the vampires who take them may not be the enthused about it. Nevertheless, Revar waits patiently until all have found a maker.

Now that they are paired up it is expected—indeed, required—that the initiate drink from their maker. That is their Beginning. Only once they have truly begun can they can be considered novices.
AUTUMN NOX
Silver Court is in season and for the Autumn Nox it holds a large symposium, inviting all the best vampire minds from around lands nearby and far. The whole castle is abuzz with new activity. The stables are packed full of horses, carriages litter the grounds, but somehow the castle has enough rooms to house all the new arrivals.

Novices will find that some of these vampires have not seen a human-novice in a very, very long time. These vampires might see the human-novices more like specimens, curious about their every move. They won't bite, but novices may find themselves observed as they wander the castle and its grounds.

The symposium itself is open to anyone at the castle. Scholars can present on any topic at all. Novices will find that these range from the incredibly mundane (you've always wanted to attend a history of bottom-feeding river fish, haven't you?) to the truly fascinating (new insights into how vampire hearts work) to the downright strange (the symposium has a range of lectures very close to dawn about the sharing of vampire...fluids). Seasoned novices with their own Autumn classes to attend are expected to keep up with their studies, but some teachers may let them out of a session to attend the lectures and workshops of the symposium.

The Silver Court vampires are incredibly busy between running the symposium and trying to help the new novices get settled in. They may need some volunteers to lend a hand with setting up rooms or helping scholars find their way around. In fact, volunteers might find themselves leading scholars down to the second kitchen for a bite to eat, a strong reminder that even these demure learners are still monsters who must drink blood.

PUMPKINS-GONE-WILD
The symposium isn't all that the autumn season brings. The Silver Court’s talents are on display in other ways—sometimes not in ways another had particularly hoped. An overly zealous youngblood in the Silver Court tried to grow a few extra pumpkins for the occasion and ended up with a few too many! The pumpkin vines break out of the green house and start sprouting pumpkins everywhere. These are no ordinary pumpkins, they will sprout and grow and become fully formed in the course of a night. Better keep an eye out for those vines or else your room might become full of pumpkins! Luckily, the pumpkins aren’t rotting any time soon (they’ll last until winter, or so the Silver Court vampires are saying), but it can be pretty inconvenient for them to grow everywhere. Start cutting those vines to pieces, and hope they don’t try to entangle you in the process.
LIBRARY CLEAN-UP
Meanwhile, with all the scholars in town are making a mess of the library, much to the Silver Court vampire’s dismay. Books are being checked out and not checked back in, passed around from scholar to scholar. You might find those lost books just about anywhere. Who was reading in a tree? Anyone who collects the books and returns them to the library is sure to get a little bit of favor with the librarians, and it’s never a bad thing to have a bit of an in with a Court. If you’re worried about failing Silver Court, it’s time to get searching! Although how you’re going to convince a 300 year old vampire that time is not fake and that deadlines are real (and in fact were two days ago) is anyone’s guess.
UNETHICAL EXPRIMENTS
[CW: Torture, experiments]

Those who venture towards the basement might hear something a little different than normal. The thralls who spend their time down there are normally quiet, commanded to keep silent and pleasant for the vampires they serve. But with the arrival of the new scholars comes disquieting, inhuman screams from the darker reaches of the basement. Novices trying to catch a glimpse will be chased away, but teachers might be invited to watch as these vampires experiment on one another, all in the name of science. What’s a little torture, when you’re undying?

Thanks for joining us for our first TDM! For any questions regarding the TDM prompts, please comment in the thread below. For general game questions, please check the FAQ/Game Info. Remember that the game proper will begin mid December, in the Winter Season, so Students/Novices should create their prompts under the assumption that the TDM takes place during the season prior to the one they will be apping as.

Autumn Classes

[personal profile] serpendipity 2023-12-02 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ Honestly, the outside classes have been some of Eden's favorites. She wouldn't even dare to miss or be late to one, including the Black Court classes. Some would think 'especially so', but she had genuine equal interest in attending all of the courts' classes. Generally, she was one of the first to arrive to most of these from the group of students.

Though with the symposium going on, and her being a student under the Silver court, she's been recruited to help out a few times too many. Enough so that for the first time, she thought she'd be late, and agreed to help as long as the one asking for assistance wrote and let Vader know about the delay. After this task was complete, the teen did her best to hurry and get to the grounds, absolutely sure she was going to be late. To the point that she didn't bother cleaning off the blood on her clothes and hands (from keeping pressure on one of the injuries.) Even ready with an apology while running up, and not quite with the group. ]

Sorry! One of the scholars went too far with a few of the thralls in their demonstration and they needed help bringing them to get taken care of.

[ She was either exactly on time, or less than a minute after (and technically still on time.) ]

Satoru doesn't normally involve himself with the newbies much -- what he's interested in, the newbies don't have, so luckily for them, they're generally not within his scope of interest. But he's passing through when he hears one of the new arrivals getting in an argument with a thrall, and despite himself, curiosity catches hold.

"Nope," he says airily. "They're enthralled. Means they only think about whatever their task is, and they'll complete it at all costs."

He eyes the tattered thing that's held between them, frowning in thought. Sometimes the newbies are attached to the things they bring in when they're meant to be burned, and while Satoru normally doesn't give much of a shit, he's feeling magnanimous today. Fuck symbolism, right?

"Let it go. He's allowed to keep his cloak," he tells the thrall, smiling and pleasant, golden eyes mostly hidden by his sunglasses, power saturating his words. The thrall drops it like its molten metal, and scurries off. Satoru cheerfully waves goodbye. "I've never been a fan of symbolism," he confides breezily. "I think they just burn your stuff so you won't be in anything that's not super fancy."

[ Eden wasn't particularly trying to wander close to any of the teachers, just as she wasn't avoiding them either. Instead, given the new environment and all of its luxury, she'd been admiring all the various details of, well, everything. The art, the clothing's quality for everyone, the unique details you could see for the courts. So it's a soft 'hm' out of her distracted state before the Foundling looks over and smiles at the teacher. ]

I think so! Though I guess the ones who came with a chosen maker already are technically doing better.

[ Either she was truly alright, or disassociating hard. It's the former, even as she kept a hand to her back, fiddling with either the clothes or the very ends of her hair. ]

Though it's not like any of us are going to be abandoned at this point, right?

Luckily for Satoru, Edward has pants on. Or at least he's masked to have pants on. His legs are crossed, booted feet up on the desk, and he's holding a collection of knives. With dark eyes and a vacant expression, Ed tosses another knife up to stick in the rafter above, then looks slowly down to find... a pumpkin friend, looking back at him with something like his own face carved in its skin, and a curtain of wild green hair made of vines.

Alright, it breaks Ed's sour mood, and he giggles, because what the absolute fuck. His eyes go wide at the greeting, mouth dropped open. "Shit, look at this! How'd you know my birthday was today?! Fucking forgot it was myself!" It isn't actually, but whatever. He kicks his feet off the desk, drops the remaining bundle of knives onto the desk in front of his pumpkin self, and looks up at Satoru with a grin. "This might be the best birthday gift I've ever been given, even without the compelling. Love it."

He picks it up and turns it this way and that, examining Satoru's work. "Take it none of the Silver's lectures caught your interest this go around?"

[Daria blinked. Not that she hadn’t met a few happy students in her service to the court. But as Daria just went with the motions of doing the minimum of effort, she just found herself almost shriveling in the sight of such a positivity clash.]

Glad you’re having a blast. Careful with that positivity around some vampires though, some shrivel in even the figurative sun.

[Mayoi is standing not very far from Alice, though it wouldn't be strange for her to have not noticed him at all. He waits in this horrid crowd while they're picked off one by one, and it reminds him all over again of the Finding. He feels sick, honestly.]

[He should have kept to himself, but his own nerves from this prompt him to reply, practically blurting out his response.]

P-Perhaps they will grow tired of this and drop those they find wretched into some kind of dungeon.

[He's a regular ray of sunshine, this one. Mayoi stands a bit closer, so they can be in proper speaking distance. He is a wilting flower, gloomy and clad in dark ruffles and lace. He'd have a pretty face if not for the expression he wears, which makes him look like he's ready to be nauseous at any moment.]

[Finally. After doing all this prep work for the students and working to keep her position, it was about damn time she was able to just do something stupid.

Needless to say, Daria has no interest in making friends when she first came here. In fact, her cold demeanor made it impossible to make friends her entire life on this planet. Except one.

Except that one.

Serving the court then for ten years, she had a secret appreciation for things awful and stupid. Though she wasn’t sure where that came from. Such humor wasn’t a privilege she had at home. At home though, but here…it took some too eager thralls, and even more eager trash writing that seemed to turn her brain on. With that, some unexpected eyes and laughs that she never experienced before.

Soon enough, she found it to be a habit. And even sooner after that, she found the company of people in her position. Seeing Astarion at the door made a smile creep up.]

Wow, right as I was maybe getting bored. Your timing is outrageous as usual.

[She says this as she went into her drawer and got out two silver glasses. Someone was usually prepared.]

No spoilers. I want to really experience what garbage you found.

[It was hard to make Daria legit angry. But boy howdy was this nonsense usual, and very annoying. Such lovely moments in her years under the court. The courts’ fun didn’t usually equal everyone else.

Literally. Annoying.

Daria meandered and avoided everything like the plague as the vines kept growing. Getting into absolutely everything those vines did, and of course they did. Of course these things just get in the way of her life. So. Daria got creative in the lab.

One of her herbal books gave some lovely info. So:

1. 1. UMB no.3 + Water = NP-004. 2. NP-004 + Yellow 6 =UMB no.10. 3. Yellow 6 + Water = UMB no.7. 4. UMB no.7 + UMB no.10 = VP-017. 5. VP-017 + UMB no.3 = V-Jolt.

2. Spray bottle.

3. Profit.

Daria saw Halsin struggle and with hardly a word, but a sigh, she…guessed she could help a fellow person. Because she could, of course. She had been spraying plants in her way, making them shrivel.

With a squeeze of a trigger, Daria got to spraying the problem plant in his way. It started to dry immediately.]

Bullseye.

Satoru stops dead in pure amazement at himself. He knew he was good, but damn. He really did guess Ed's birthday.

There's only one explanation: he must be a god.

As Ed admires his gift, Satoru slings himself down to sit in the chair facing Ed's desk, picking up one of the knives to idly amuse himself by balancing it on the tip of his finger, point down. "I dragged some people to one of them in the hopes I might actually die from boredom. I thought it might be some new cunning Silver Court attack plan," he says blithely. "No luck. I was awake and conscious during the whole thing. It was the worst."

(It probably wasn't that bad. Everybody around him had looked fascinated about this new, incredible library organizing method a scholar had come up with. Satoru just doesn't like sitting still and listening to people that aren't himself talk.)

"If it was any other day, I'd congratulate you for sitting alone in a dark office -- but it's your birthday!" Satoru grabs the pumpkin and jiggles it about like it's talking, putting on a horrific imitation of Ed's accent: "Birthday time, yay! We should celebrate, eh!"

Puzzled, he rounds a turn in the corridor and then comes to an abrupt stop to find one of the doors in this hall completely enclosed in thick, tangled vines. Ah. So that would be the source of the yelling, then. He's assuming that's not supposed to be there.

[Izzy is immediately lost to Ed's eyes, his presence, his very dark-eyed nature, in thrall of a different kind. A true kind. A thrall that came from the inside out without vampiric pressures. It was a thrall of Ed, of his stormy beauty, of his countenance and confidence and power rolling off him in waves. Izzy was pulled in before he even realized what was happening.

Then the old familiar dance and the nerves drop away as his body moves in tune to it. His eyes flutter closed at the hand in his hair, he turns his head a fraction to have better access to his neck, his back bows and he pushes himself slightly onto the balls of his feet so Edward doesn't have to lean down so far.

He shudders at Ed's voice washing over his ear. Waiting for the bite. Wanting the bite. Needing it. The pain that came from it. The feeling of being useful, sustaining- and then the words hit home and he remembered just what the fuck he was here for]

New Arrivals

This was all too much like being sociable, and Will hates it thank you very much. He was only in attendance because somewhere along the line he'd been threatened with being assigned a novice if he wasn't there to avoid it. He disliked the blatant manipulation, but upon careful consideration he disliked the risk of being assigned responsibility for some random starry eyed fledgling.

Dressed from head to toe in black, it could be mistaken that he was representing the Black Court. Truth was, his outfit simply made it easier for the slender vampire to hide in the shadows. His goal was to attend, be seen by Revar, and then get back to his books.

For other teachers it may be such a rare occurrence to see Will out and about it could be worth giving him a shout. Either to actually talk, or just watch him squirm with discomfort over having to be sociable.

As for the foundlings.

Will totally intended to ignore their entire existence. Except that if he came across someone who looked overwhelmed, or simply lost, he couldn't help himself. He stopped with a sigh and walked over to them.

"Did you get separated from your court? It can get chaotic with all of us together."

Autumn Nox cw: Threads could contain discussions of serial killer stalking, murder, psychological manipulation

[OOC: Please heed the Content Warning. If you are OKAY with these subjects, let me know in the comment header. Otherwise I will assume to avoid anything specific.]

As he didn't have any classes this Season (Winter would be a different story) Will had agreed to do a lecture series for the symposium. Surprisingly he was a good lecturer, having often claimed that it was easier to talk at people then with them.

Despite being anti-social to the extreme and avoiding conversations like the plague, Will had a good speaking voice. He never droned, was always in motion and used his voice to weave a spell with his words. He might be crap at interpersonal relationships, and once out of the lecture hall could barely string two sentences together but behind the lectern he could paint a masterpiece of imagination.

As his topics were about The Hunt. Specifically the various ways to hunt prey ranging from direct; physical stalk and jump, to the more psychologically manipulative. His ability to paint to the imagination might be uncomfortable for some, newer novices. In fact, his symposium was listed as being appropriate for higher level initiates, but hey ... no one was guarding the door.

Library Clean-Up

When he's not at the symposium teaching others how to be manipulative little shits, Will can be found in the library.

Well, technically he's doing his best not to be found, having buried himself in the deepest recesses to help clean up various nooks and crannies. It wasn't easy to find him, but every so often a book caught his attention and he would sit down on the floor at the base of the stacks to read it.

Usually he was happy to go unnoticed, but occasionally he piped up.

"I think that's a cookbook you've got there. It goes in Preservation, not Healing."

Unethical Experiments cw: Graphic violence, psychological manipulation

[OOC: If you want to assume the role of the vampire he's torturing, please PM to discuss first. If your character is an observer, feel free to jump on in!]

There was a part of Will that wanted nothing more than to live in the basement indulging his inner monster until he could satisfy its hunger. There was also a part of Will that, after years trapped in a dungeon, understood the need to keep that other part tightly leashed.

His personal rule was a strict one. Will did not come down to the basement unless a fellow vampire or teacher asked him to come and use his Dread Blade for an experiment. Usually it was a case of a Blue Court or a Silver Court member wanting to test their mastery of shapeshifting, masking, or healing.

Most observers were focused on the subject of the experiment. But those who looked at Will as more than simply a tool to test a theory, might notice something interesting about this man.

The Will Graham who lived and taught above the basement was a skittish creature. He wore glasses, never made eye contact, spoke in a soft voice (when not teaching) and usually made every effort to keep conversations brief. He hunched his shoulders, made himself as small as possible and gave off physical vibes of 'don't hurt me, leave me alone'.

The Will Graham in the basement, was almost like an entirely different person. He walked tall and proud, his movements effortlessly graceful and full of confidence. His voice was still soft, but he spoke in longer sentences and embellished his words in a way that invited attention. When he stepped forward to make a cut or otherwise wield the Dread Blade, there was no hesitation in his actions. His knifework was swift, killed, and certain. Though he never smiled, he definitely looked pleased with, and almost euphoric about his gruesome work.

[Well shit, that was hot but then it's turned back on him like this and he has to debate.. does he act like he's incapable or does he just show off? Showing off could land him some favor but he also has an act he needs to keep up.

He picks the one that will benefit him most in the end...

Well, I can't do any cool shadowstepping yet, but.. my lessons in Red have been very enlightening.

[Dagger in hand, he does some cool slashing moves that make short work of the remaining vines, all while showing off his ass in the best angles. Don't you just want to go to pound town on that bad boy, Xenk? Could bounce a coin off that thing.

Hands on his hips, he looks over his shoulder at Xenk with a grin.

What do you say teacher?

[Jim has already survived here a season, enough so that he feels certain that he's getting the hang of what it's going to be like to be a vampire. That he will need to manipulate and use people, that he will need to step on people to get a leg up on the competition. Even back before being a vampire it was like that. No one wanted to help the starving kid, just another mouth to feed when they could barely feed their own...

Yeah, if in the back of his mind he's calculating how to use Eden, he can't really be faulted. But really, part of him is the farm boy looking at a pretty girl and hoping she will notice him too. So while he doesn't think a sweet name fits him, he can't stop the charmed smile.

Wine? Really? Maybe that Silver is trying to figure out how to make a new kind of bloodwine. Everyone is always after Red's secret, but they somehow keep it underwraps. Either way, I promise I won't tell another soul, your secret is safe with me.

[He winks.]

[Kirk gives him an amused grin.]

Oh absolutely. So, what court are you looking at? Sure you can't guess mine.

[The fact he's wearing blue should be obvious enough.]
