DEC TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to the Undying Court Test Drive Meme! This post will allow players to test drive their AU characters in the setting, as well as meet fresh faces or even connect with those they have preexisting CR with. As with anything involved in the setting, this post will likely contain: violence, enthrallment, torture, and sexual content.

Regarding continuity, all TDM threads can be taken as in-game canon if desired. Please keep in mind that the game proper will begin in mid December, in the Winter Season, so Students/Novices should create their prompts under the assumption that the TDM takes place during the season prior to the one they will be apping as. This means that students planning to app as first season novices will be visiting Castle Courtsheart prior to their Beginning. In other words, if you plan to app a student as a second season, the TDM will take place during their first, and so on.

NEW ARRIVALS

New arrivals will be starting their first season in the winter, but they're welcomed to the castle early, under the watchful eyes of the Silver Court. Upon arrival, they will be shown to a room by a human whose eyes glow softly from within, with vacant smiles. Thralls. There, the human thralls will draw them a bath and bring them new clothes to wear to their first meeting. These are rich, expensive things made of high quality fabric. Whether it's a silk dress and a heavy velvet cowl, or a fine pants and a vest made from a brocade, the servants will provide. The new initiate's old clothes will be burned after, in a symbol of the life they are leaving behind. If they are hungry, they will be provided food. If they need anything at all, they need only ask their new servants.

Later that night they are taken to a grand hall, with high arched ceilings and candles burning in chandeliers. There are figures painted overhead, beautiful and entwined. Some have their eyes are colored to match the courts, others are gracefully placed in their death, with blood dripping from necks and wrists.

Balconies line the hall behind a forest of pillars, and vampires all watch as the group walk through (some more hungrily than others).

"Welcome to your first undying season, initiates," a pale, silver-haired vampire calls. They have silver eyes are clad in silver robes, but command the attention of everyone in attendance. They have a beauty that seems neither male nor female. They are standing at the center of a wide semi-circle of other vampires, "As the Silver Court's acting voice at this end of the Autumn season, allow me to introduce you to the Houses that will be your new homes."

The vampire, Revar, gives the newcomers an overview of all of the courts—Blue, Red, Gold, Silver, and Black—and then invites those already claimed by their Courts to join the vampires who will be their Makers.

Revar offers the Foundlings who are left a gentle, knowing smile, and then allows them to be chosen. They are like the last sheep left at the auction, and the vampires who take them may not be the enthused about it. Nevertheless, Revar waits patiently until all have found a maker.

Now that they are paired up it is expected—indeed, required—that the initiate drink from their maker. That is their Beginning. Only once they have truly begun can they can be considered novices.

AUTUMN NOX

Silver Court is in season and for the Autumn Nox it holds a large symposium, inviting all the best vampire minds from around lands nearby and far. The whole castle is abuzz with new activity. The stables are packed full of horses, carriages litter the grounds, but somehow the castle has enough rooms to house all the new arrivals.

Novices will find that some of these vampires have not seen a human-novice in a very, very long time. These vampires might see the human-novices more like specimens, curious about their every move. They won't bite, but novices may find themselves observed as they wander the castle and its grounds.

The symposium itself is open to anyone at the castle. Scholars can present on any topic at all. Novices will find that these range from the incredibly mundane (you've always wanted to attend a history of bottom-feeding river fish, haven't you?) to the truly fascinating (new insights into how vampire hearts work) to the downright strange (the symposium has a range of lectures very close to dawn about the sharing of vampire...fluids). Seasoned novices with their own Autumn classes to attend are expected to keep up with their studies, but some teachers may let them out of a session to attend the lectures and workshops of the symposium.

The Silver Court vampires are incredibly busy between running the symposium and trying to help the new novices get settled in. They may need some volunteers to lend a hand with setting up rooms or helping scholars find their way around. In fact, volunteers might find themselves leading scholars down to the second kitchen for a bite to eat, a strong reminder that even these demure learners are still monsters who must drink blood.

PUMPKINS-GONE-WILD

The symposium isn't all that the autumn season brings. The Silver Court’s talents are on display in other ways—sometimes not in ways another had particularly hoped. An overly zealous youngblood in the Silver Court tried to grow a few extra pumpkins for the occasion and ended up with a few too many! The pumpkin vines break out of the green house and start sprouting pumpkins everywhere. These are no ordinary pumpkins, they will sprout and grow and become fully formed in the course of a night. Better keep an eye out for those vines or else your room might become full of pumpkins! Luckily, the pumpkins aren’t rotting any time soon (they’ll last until winter, or so the Silver Court vampires are saying), but it can be pretty inconvenient for them to grow everywhere. Start cutting those vines to pieces, and hope they don’t try to entangle you in the process.

LIBRARY CLEAN-UP

Meanwhile, with all the scholars in town are making a mess of the library, much to the Silver Court vampire’s dismay. Books are being checked out and not checked back in, passed around from scholar to scholar. You might find those lost books just about anywhere. Who was reading in a tree? Anyone who collects the books and returns them to the library is sure to get a little bit of favor with the librarians, and it’s never a bad thing to have a bit of an in with a Court. If you’re worried about failing Silver Court, it’s time to get searching! Although how you’re going to convince a 300 year old vampire that time is not fake and that deadlines are real (and in fact were two days ago) is anyone’s guess.

UNETHICAL EXPRIMENTS

[CW: Torture, experiments]

Those who venture towards the basement might hear something a little different than normal. The thralls who spend their time down there are normally quiet, commanded to keep silent and pleasant for the vampires they serve. But with the arrival of the new scholars comes disquieting, inhuman screams from the darker reaches of the basement. Novices trying to catch a glimpse will be chased away, but teachers might be invited to watch as these vampires experiment on one another, all in the name of science. What’s a little torture, when you’re undying?

[If he's honest, he's never had pumpkin before, so her talking about all the different ways the servants will be making the food makes his stomach want to growl. He was ready for the pumpkin feast they will be having for the next few days to come.

He still thinks she's a bit of a pumpkin fanatic, but it's cute so he doesn't mind. Cute and pretty.]

I had to ask my maker about that, because I was pretty sure they were doing just that. Fattening us up, honestly I still not sure I fully believe him when he laughed at me about it...

[He says it like he's telling her a secret, but the wink says it's obviously a joke.]

No.

[He says that very firmly. She would not be in one of his classes and if he sees her in one he's throwing her to the wolves just like he would any other student.

Literally.]

My classes aren't suited to you.

[while he's got a reputation of being one of the most ruthless and deadly teachers (but honestly, which one of the Black Court members isn't?), Toji isn't a complete bastard outside of class. pitch-black eyes take in the vibrant colours of the clothes before they register the little human tucked inside them.]

Did they just leave you out here to fend for yourself? How careless.

[ Vader glared, unamused; difficult students, no matter how old, were not worth his time. He promptly elected to ignore the fool, instead; taming these vines was more important. ]

I can be, if the circumstances are right. [And with her father, they certainly are. If anyone's earned a prolonged torment, it's him.]

What about you? Any unfinished business waiting for you to graduate?

The Black Court can afford to be... picky.

[ The Black Court was the one that kept everyone in check; they dealt in death all the time. Picking an untested student in an event such as this was taking a gamble that more than likely would end in said student's death -- in other words, wasting their time. ]

I will take on a student when they prove themselves worth the effort.

[Fenris knows that's likely a slight, since mind reading was one of the things he struggled with most. Second only to thralls. He was good at shielding his mind but not at entering the minds of others.

But he doesn't show how he's irritated with the other man.

Besides, he would rather kill his failing students than let them become thralls.]

Yes, but you still have the occasional pretender slip through into your court, at least with us there's no chance of it.

[He would never argue that Black Court is the best one, but even those who could graduate and become good for the court can often die. So only the truly best make it into their ranks.]

[He smiles darkly at the question, though it closes quickly as he felt the point of his budding fangs as he leans against the wall, not caring if his finery gets dirtied]

That is a very good question - at worse, it makes them cannibals, at best predators.

[His gaze lingers on the thrall, his expression hardens]

Though I wonder what you someone that does that to people.

[ Vader was silent for a long moment, his expression unseen behind the mask, but his disapproval could be felt. Then, with a speed too fast to track with an untrained eye, his sword was removed from its sheath, the tip just bare centimeters from her nose. ]

You dare to show up late to my class, and cause a scene while doing so?

[ He doesn't care if it's only a minute; late is late. ]

[ Eden can already feel hers rumbling, even if it wasn't making any sounds of protest to being empty. It's been a busy time dealing with the vines, which means working up an appetite all the faster. ]

I'm sure it's just because it's a funny thought... Oh.

[ Amusing and fun things were one thing, but actual jokes were something Eden had to get used to now that she was around people since arriving last season. So in realizing late, for the first time she looked away before returning eye contact, also nudging at Jim's chest with the back of a bent finger. ]

Don't tell anyone about that. People in the south are usually really direct when I've gone to the towns. It's a little embarrassing to still be getting used to...

[ Jokes. Eden's probably also the type that doesn't question people's motives too much unless it's a clear enough situation. Like business deals, or gambling. ]

[ Vader hadn't been looking at her per say, but when the young woman starts to approach him, it's clear she has his undivided attention. If she was expecting a reaction other than a long, bored stare from behind his mask, however, then she was about to be sorely disappointed. ]

Indeed.

[ At least she got that much out of him; most people he would have just ignored until they went away. ]

Depends on who you ask. Some may say tradition, others to give hope to those who would otherwise get overlooked... for some it is civic duty.

[Some were bored, others for the spectacle. Really, it might depend on the court and the lands what answer you get. He's never been interested in taking a novice who will just die trying to be right for the Black Court.]

And vampires can read minds. [Fenris wasn't particularly talented at it, so he didn't bother with her mind. But he holds her eye contact, though it was hard to tell when his eyes were pitch black with no distinction of pupils.]

But how the choice is made is up to the individual maker.

[Despite his own run in with the pumpkins earlier, he couldn't help but stifle a snicker at Edgin's attempts at clearing the door, but not bothering to offer help.]

Lead the way then...

NEW ARRIVALS;

[Sarah sort of makes it a thing to show up to each and every one of these new arrival ceremonies. Among those of the Red Court she might be one of the few with something of a less seductive and more gentle air with the newer students.

At the moment she's up on the balcony lining the hall behind that forest of pillars, leaning over the balcony railing itself. The new students are just now filtering in and anyone who joins her get a quirked grin, easy and smooth in tone.]

So what do you think of this season's initiates?

LIBRARY CLEAN-UP;

[Rather than actually cleaning up the library Sarah has ended up as she so often does, pausing to flip through a particular book. She doesn't even bother snapping it shut or trying to conceal what she's doing once someone does happen upon her. Instead she gives them an easy smile, an amused twinkle to those dark red eyes of hers as she tucks her finger between the pages of the book where she left off.]

Did you happen to stay for the symposium on the arts and seduction?

[Whatever the answer might be Sarah leans looks back to the book in her hand, voice darkly warm as she talks.]

Not everyone appreciates how stimulating art can really be. A good book, a song ... or just a choice set of words.

[ Ah, he's upset. It's an understanding before Eden leaned just subtle back on her feet as the teacher shadowstepped. To her credit, she didn't flinch or anything; just that instinctive lean back as if dealing with a snake that had suddenly struck. ]

I'd rather show up late than not at all. I was one of the few that knew how to pack wounds...

[ It was most likely that Darth Vader would be this way regardless, but there's something else that Eden suspected. It's easy to suspect because so many of the teachers and visiting scholars were so aloof to not get to things on time and with consideration for others. So she nodded in understanding that and accepting whatever may come. The one problem was that it was always hard for Eden to stop talking on her own volition. ]

They didn't get to sending the notice, did they? Should I join the others and stop making a scene, or if there something I should do to make up for it? Though I'd rather not miss more of the class... I'm fine with working harder and for longer after...

[ Vader was aware of the presence of one of the students lingering after classes, but he paid it no mind. If they were not going to bother him, he wasn't going to go out of his way to bother them. ]

((OOC: Okay awesome! Fenris is a 25 year long Black Court Teacher, so they can totally know each other!))

[Yes, Tighnari and their strange mask. He thought it was a strange use of a mask, but he says nothing of it, never has, it was his business. Afterall, Fenris' mask gave him markings all over his body, black and swirling and longer hair. If asked, he has no real reason to use a mask like that, but if felt right.. well the long hair was a conscious effort.]

Yes, Silver court is looking for a number of books that have been checked out this season and yet to be returned. Seeing as it's your court, I will simply inform them you have it.

Still admiring the details of his new autumn bestie, Ed hums in sympathy for Satoru's description of the Silver lectures, knowing all too well how impressively torturous they can get. Boredom is worse than death. You won't ever convince Ed otherwise.

Luckily, Satoru is as interesting as they come. Ed grins again at the delightfully awful impression of his accent. He forgives the pumpkin for it, though. It's only been alive for a day, after all. Pumpkin!Ed is blameless. Ed coos at it before looking up at Satoru again. "Ahh, this one gets it! Can't spend a fucking birthday behind a desk." His eyes wander towards the ceiling as his mind flips through the variety of mischief they could get into. "All these ancient Silver bastards around though, laming up the place..."

Good lad.

[ Ed's cheek brushes against Izzy's jaw. His nose and lips press in a toothless nuzzle to Izzy's neck, right over his pulse. He's so intoxicating, this human Edward's claimed even without a bite. Will he still smell this good, taste as good, once he's something uglier and more monstrous? He couldn't possibly. Ed is going to miss this. It adds bitterness to his words and a sharpness to his grip as he tugs Izzy by the hair away from him instead of closer, back down below his natural height and looks away from him, towards his own free wrist. ]

Let's get this over with.

[ Not trusting Izzy to do it well enough, Ed takes a fang to his own wrist above his gloves. Thick, blue blood raises from the cut he's made, and once that bloody wrist is in front of Izzy's face, Ed lets go of his hair at last, so Izzy can do what he likes. He instructs in a lilt, without invading Izzy's mind to compel him, because he knows he doesn't need to. ]

Quick now, before it spills.

Oh.

[ To her credit, she didn't flinch with the panic of people reading her mind. Not that one really needed to to understand what was going on in Eden Woods' mind. She's rather open on that front. ]

So there are other ways to help them make those choices. I guess the choices don't always work out, especially because of how much one could change over time, but I'm glad there's ways to lower those odds.

[ Blue, then. And freshly, too, from how little's in his eyes and how strongly the smell of human blood is on him, still. The little push back on his prying is interesting, and Ed respects it. His creeping presence is gone from Harlock's mind just as quickly as it came. ]

Yeah?

[ His eyebrows raise in interested, mild surprise, as if he didn't know it before Harlock told him. ]

Don't worry about all this then, mate. Unless your maker says otherwise, none of it's for you.

[ Ah, Diluc. Always so cool and above it all. Ed, on the other hand, rolls his entire head in Diluc's direction rather than focus on the source of the screams. ]

That's because you don't know how to have fun, mate.

autumn nox

[ erwin has a sixth sense for when he may be able to help people and when he spots a novice with whom one of the elder vampires has taken quite a shine to he figures he can lend them a hand. it's just that the elder vampire's been talking non-stop for forty minutes about various aspects of humans they find fascinating, which seems a bit on the nose and insensitive, though not on purpose.

when he steps up it's with a disarming smile as he places a hand on the arm of the scholar and leans in to murmur. ]

My apologies for interrupting, but I'm afraid I must cut in and ask our friend here for some assistance with something. Perhaps you could partake and return refreshed? Should I find someone to lead you to the kitchens?

[ the vampire is thankfully friendly enough that they smile and wave off the offer, thanking erwin for the reminder but saying that they know where to go to get their blood.

which they do. go, that is, begging off the conversation and offering to pick it up another time. once they're gone, erwin sighs and turns back to the novice, smile turned almost wry. ]

You looked exhausted by the impromptu lecture.

library clean up

[ erwin is currently sorting through a stack of library books, putting them carefully into different stacks according to where they go. he may not be a librarian, but he uses the library often enough (nerd) to be personally invested in it.

he looks up at the arrival of more books (and a person attached to them) and smiles. ]

Quite the haul you've got there. Feel free to set them down anywhere.

new arrivals (for dirtdevil)

[ it feels like forever, waiting for levi to return to him. they haven't had all the time in the world together since arriving back here and he already feels a little keyed-up just from the short time levi's been going through the initial processes of becoming a novice.

erwin had explained everything plainly before even offering to take levi under his wing (so to speak), including much of what revar is covering. perhaps he shouldn't have, seeing as it involves a lot of vampire knowledge, but in the same vein, erwin's always confident when he's found someone he knows would benefit from what he and the courts can offer.

and he'd been right.

so he stands off to the side, watching everything like a hawk, and once levi's finally walking back to him, he smiles. it's knowing, almost a little fond already, and he tilts his head just a little. ]

Levi.

[ he sounds genuinely happy to see him. what a guy. ]

"I have to imagine it's just not high on the priority list after a century or two. If you don't need to do it anymore, it's not like you're ever going to look in the pantry."

The mention of that particular lecture left Apollo wincing as he took in the list again. It wasn't even the most dangerous-sounding one on the list, just one of the more alarming ones. "I'm starting to think that this list is a better look into the vampire mind than any of these lectures could possibly be... er, no offense, sir."

Apollo was hasty to add that last part. He knew full well how testy a vampire could get, even if this one seemed pretty casual.

[Going for the weapon this time it seems, or at least the injured hand - though it was almost fully healed now.

Curious tactic. For the moment, he lets the other have the "advantage" here, to let him cut at him and make Fenris drop the dagger, disarming him easily enough. Fenris doesn't need it to kill Akechi afterall.

He wanted to see what he was going to do next, wants to peer into the tactic he was going for. It would make it easier to correct it later. So he takes a leap backwards, bringing his arms up to block the next attack, watching with eerily pitch black eyes, inhuman and haunting, tracking every movement.]
