DEC TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to the Undying Court Test Drive Meme! This post will allow players to test drive their AU characters in the setting, as well as meet fresh faces or even connect with those they have preexisting CR with. As with anything involved in the setting, this post will likely contain: violence, enthrallment, torture, and sexual content.

Regarding continuity, all TDM threads can be taken as in-game canon if desired. Please keep in mind that the game proper will begin in mid December, in the Winter Season, so Students/Novices should create their prompts under the assumption that the TDM takes place during the season prior to the one they will be apping as. This means that students planning to app as first season novices will be visiting Castle Courtsheart prior to their Beginning. In other words, if you plan to app a student as a second season, the TDM will take place during their first, and so on.

NEW ARRIVALS

New arrivals will be starting their first season in the winter, but they're welcomed to the castle early, under the watchful eyes of the Silver Court. Upon arrival, they will be shown to a room by a human whose eyes glow softly from within, with vacant smiles. Thralls. There, the human thralls will draw them a bath and bring them new clothes to wear to their first meeting. These are rich, expensive things made of high quality fabric. Whether it's a silk dress and a heavy velvet cowl, or a fine pants and a vest made from a brocade, the servants will provide. The new initiate's old clothes will be burned after, in a symbol of the life they are leaving behind. If they are hungry, they will be provided food. If they need anything at all, they need only ask their new servants.

Later that night they are taken to a grand hall, with high arched ceilings and candles burning in chandeliers. There are figures painted overhead, beautiful and entwined. Some have their eyes are colored to match the courts, others are gracefully placed in their death, with blood dripping from necks and wrists.

Balconies line the hall behind a forest of pillars, and vampires all watch as the group walk through (some more hungrily than others).

"Welcome to your first undying season, initiates," a pale, silver-haired vampire calls. They have silver eyes are clad in silver robes, but command the attention of everyone in attendance. They have a beauty that seems neither male nor female. They are standing at the center of a wide semi-circle of other vampires, "As the Silver Court's acting voice at this end of the Autumn season, allow me to introduce you to the Houses that will be your new homes."

The vampire, Revar, gives the newcomers an overview of all of the courts—Blue, Red, Gold, Silver, and Black—and then invites those already claimed by their Courts to join the vampires who will be their Makers.

Revar offers the Foundlings who are left a gentle, knowing smile, and then allows them to be chosen. They are like the last sheep left at the auction, and the vampires who take them may not be the enthused about it. Nevertheless, Revar waits patiently until all have found a maker.

Now that they are paired up it is expected—indeed, required—that the initiate drink from their maker. That is their Beginning. Only once they have truly begun can they can be considered novices.

AUTUMN NOX

Silver Court is in season and for the Autumn Nox it holds a large symposium, inviting all the best vampire minds from around lands nearby and far. The whole castle is abuzz with new activity. The stables are packed full of horses, carriages litter the grounds, but somehow the castle has enough rooms to house all the new arrivals.

Novices will find that some of these vampires have not seen a human-novice in a very, very long time. These vampires might see the human-novices more like specimens, curious about their every move. They won't bite, but novices may find themselves observed as they wander the castle and its grounds.

The symposium itself is open to anyone at the castle. Scholars can present on any topic at all. Novices will find that these range from the incredibly mundane (you've always wanted to attend a history of bottom-feeding river fish, haven't you?) to the truly fascinating (new insights into how vampire hearts work) to the downright strange (the symposium has a range of lectures very close to dawn about the sharing of vampire...fluids). Seasoned novices with their own Autumn classes to attend are expected to keep up with their studies, but some teachers may let them out of a session to attend the lectures and workshops of the symposium.

The Silver Court vampires are incredibly busy between running the symposium and trying to help the new novices get settled in. They may need some volunteers to lend a hand with setting up rooms or helping scholars find their way around. In fact, volunteers might find themselves leading scholars down to the second kitchen for a bite to eat, a strong reminder that even these demure learners are still monsters who must drink blood.

PUMPKINS-GONE-WILD

The symposium isn't all that the autumn season brings. The Silver Court’s talents are on display in other ways—sometimes not in ways another had particularly hoped. An overly zealous youngblood in the Silver Court tried to grow a few extra pumpkins for the occasion and ended up with a few too many! The pumpkin vines break out of the green house and start sprouting pumpkins everywhere. These are no ordinary pumpkins, they will sprout and grow and become fully formed in the course of a night. Better keep an eye out for those vines or else your room might become full of pumpkins! Luckily, the pumpkins aren’t rotting any time soon (they’ll last until winter, or so the Silver Court vampires are saying), but it can be pretty inconvenient for them to grow everywhere. Start cutting those vines to pieces, and hope they don’t try to entangle you in the process.

LIBRARY CLEAN-UP

Meanwhile, with all the scholars in town are making a mess of the library, much to the Silver Court vampire’s dismay. Books are being checked out and not checked back in, passed around from scholar to scholar. You might find those lost books just about anywhere. Who was reading in a tree? Anyone who collects the books and returns them to the library is sure to get a little bit of favor with the librarians, and it’s never a bad thing to have a bit of an in with a Court. If you’re worried about failing Silver Court, it’s time to get searching! Although how you’re going to convince a 300 year old vampire that time is not fake and that deadlines are real (and in fact were two days ago) is anyone’s guess.

UNETHICAL EXPRIMENTS

[CW: Torture, experiments]

Those who venture towards the basement might hear something a little different than normal. The thralls who spend their time down there are normally quiet, commanded to keep silent and pleasant for the vampires they serve. But with the arrival of the new scholars comes disquieting, inhuman screams from the darker reaches of the basement. Novices trying to catch a glimpse will be chased away, but teachers might be invited to watch as these vampires experiment on one another, all in the name of science. What’s a little torture, when you’re undying?

[The young man is taken aback when Diluc acknowledges him. Good. He's smart enough to realize that Diluc's a potential threat. which is more than he expected from a Gold Court whelp.]

I'm observing, same as you. The class belongs to a colleague of mine. Stay as long as you'd like.

[Given the blackness of Diluc's eyes, it's confirmation that this is a Black Court course.]

Do you have an interest in combat?

Consider it a lesson: always be aware of your surroundings and the potential ways it can shift.

[He offers her a hand. Is it meant as a peace offering? He won't ever admit it, so better not to ask.]

If not for the vines, you would have caught yourself just fine. Quite the contrast from what I hear among your instructors.

[ More often than not, it's an argument between him and Izzy, or at least a battle of wills. Edward knows this must rankle Izzy, the year-long process of it and Ed's own reluctance. But Izzy behaves himself now, even with the taste of blood in his mouth, and Ed is instantly reminded of Izzy's worth. Helps that he looks incredible, too: sharp-eyed and fearless, licking his teeth as well as if he'd already had fangs, all but begging to be brought to heel by someone older, stronger, hungrier. Ed's eyes flick to Izzy's mouth, and he nods, almost imperceptivity, before turning away from him. ]

That's enough for this lot. Follow me.

[ With a kind of violence to his step and fire in his eyes, Ed stalks away at a steady pace, expecting Izzy to follow him as commanded like the good doggie he is. ]

It's past time for lunch.

[Good grief, is he really getting this upset over vines? Just deal with the ones in your way and move on like the rest of them, Kravitz.

Though it is quite an amusing thing to watch and follow. Though at a safe distance by using the whole inner beast shenanigans for the margay and being able to follow through the banisters like it's absolutely nothing.

Perhaps he'll notice her, perhaps he won't. But either way, she's just more keen to see just how far he's going to go with all of this.]

An eternally boring Tuesday, if one was being honest. Which is precisely why there's a little bit of noise of weight moving around on top of the very festive umbrella for but a moment.

A moment that ends when there's a cat with a very distinctive choker/collar around the neck hanging down from the edge of the umbrella to just sort of stare at him for a brief moment.

"How long do you think they're going to keep this up?" Well, so much for the illusion of that just being someone's pet, not that anyone that knows her doesn't know of her shenanigans by this point.

That sounds like an excellent idea.

[Diluc hadn't come here for the purposes of sex specifically, but he knew it wasn't remotely off the table. Tighnari is stressed and in need of an outlet, and it's not like he won't benefit from a bit of release himself.

With a low chuckle of his own, he shrugs off his coat and drapes it over the back of a chair before sinking into the seat Tighnari vacated and loosening the tie around his own neck.]

[Bah, it's not as if this whole scene was really Lydia's thing to begin with. Spectacles are one thing, but not when they're of the boring type. In fact, she's already been taking nips out of the flash she'd had hidden in her cleavage because clearly that's the best use for a corset.

However, she does pause at the humming, glancing towards him for the briefest of moments before the words settle in and her annoyance turns into a grin.]

What were you proposing? Breaking them is my specialty and quite fun. [She may be Red, but she didn't take and survive Black classes in her time for no reason. Or gain a reputation for tormenting students and being quite sadistic about it in her twenty years of being a teacher.]

[Sarah huffs out an amused breath. Somehow she had guessed that would be Jaheira's observation.]

It's bound to happen to at least a few of them every season.

[Despite the moment of amusement Sarah's expression slides into something distant and thoughtful as she stands up a little straighter. Her hands rest against the balcony railing now and she gives the incoming humans a more deliberate sweep of her gaze.]

There are always those who subvert your expectations though. The most timid of them can rise to the occasion with the right guidance.

[She certainly had. By the time she arrived as a novice she had faded so much from the strong and resilient girl she once was she probably should have been in the woods too if not for her Maker's guidance.]

[ Of course he hears Ed coming. He hears everything. Ed smiles to put those kind worries for himself at ease. Nari's done enough worrying about everyone else already this season. ]

Everything's fine.

[ He steps in as he's invited and gives a casual once-over. This isn't the first time he's dropping in on Tightnari's room, and it looks just the same as always: books everywhere, live plants, all soft and welcoming and nothing threatening about it. It's one of Ed's favorite places to be, if he's honest. The greenhouse is alright, but there's way less chance of getting harassed by any plants in here, and more pillows and blankets and places to sit, too. Though, Ed doesn't sit just yet. He turns almost as soon as he's in the doorway, holding up a bottle and two glasses. ]

Just thought you could use a bit of liquid relaxation after the last week. Lively bunch this season, aren't they?

[ No apologies necessary, anyway. Dry blankets aren't nearly as fun to rile. ]

Yeah, you know what else has a purpose? Intercourse. Doesn't mean it can't be fun.

[ That's vibes, man. It only makes sense to observe; know your enemy, and all that. But also, who wants to watch this shit? Other Silvers, apparently. But for Blues like them, and a fellow teacher, nonetheless— Ed looks over at John. ]

Really care about their research, don't they? It'd be a shame if something were to interrupt.

[ The winking and nodding and cheeky grin are all implied. ]

Nah, blame it all on me, mate. Teacher Teach. That's Blue Court lessons, for you. Never know when they'll strike or what they'll entail. And they're a hell of a lot more fun.

[ Hook, line, sinker. Fuck yeah, Ed's good at fishing. He takes the question as an agreement to play, and grins, sets the last book in the row on top, and stands with a flourish. ]

Okay, so. The game is, you take one of the books from anywhere in the tower that isn't the top row... And place it on the top in the same pattern.

[ Edward demonstrates. Seems easy, right? But what happens when more books are taken, and the whole thing becomes top-heavy? There's the fun. ]

First one to topple the tower loses. Pretty straight-forward. Think you can manage a go?

Not saying you should, mate. Remembering the traumatizing shit is our court's specialty, after all. Someone has to.

[ Yeah, lack of screams isn't a good thing, usually. Could go either way, though. The change in topic's a good idea, though. The "putting it out of mind" he was talking about, so he answers readily. ]

Impressive memory, there. Yeah, you probably did, for a time. Had my own novice to deal with this season, but before that? Just business as ush.

Kotone thinks for a moment.

"I'm not going to say 'anything,' because that's just inviting a situation that makes a liar out of me." Also, it's kind of desperate. "I know I'm going to have to drink blood from humans. I know I'm going to need to hurt or even kill people. Manipulate them on a bigger scale than I already do." She's not too proud to admit she's resorted to that kind of thing for her own survival, though obviously not on any kind of scale that might impress a vampire. "Outright making thralls, I think, I'd have to work up to - not that I haven't had the urge to do that to certain people, but still."

She's not really trying to impress Lydia as she speaks; she's mostly voicing things she's been working out in her own mind ever since she got her feather.

"I know I have a long way to go."

"We're getting by." And it's still an improvement on what she's had.

Sarah definitely sticks around for the talk. While she herself has little musical skill you can't argue how important music and symphonies are. A theatre performance isn't quite complete without a good musical score as well.

She does help herd some of the students by the end, teacher duties and all. Once that's done though she does approach Kravitz with a bright smile. They might not be close but she naturally knows of Kravitz given they're both Red Court and teachers to boot.

"It's always a pleasure to hear you play."

That's different.

[Because he said so. And because that's an activity he actually partakes in for pleasure, unlike this.]

And Kotone is getting exercise, which is something she might appreciate at some point later. "I've been wondering the same thing."

Potential, indeed. A lot of that makes sense to her and her not saying "anything" certainly does give her points in her book given, well, anyone that says that is a complete and utter liar. There's even some lines that she won't cross and she's fairly certain if she has boundaries than everyone else has at least something they won't do.

"You'll be happy to know you don't have to make thralls if you don't want or need to, I know I haven't bothered with such a thing. Not that there's reason to while here." The castle has its own, so what's the point of making more if they aren't necessary? Though she hums quietly to herself, seeming far more serious than previously.

Until she's reaching out a hand to just quickly boop the tip of her nose. "You're going to make a liar out of me for saying I would never pick up a Novice. But I think it's a good idea this time, I'm not lax by any means, but if anyone knows their way around manipulation and survival, it would be me." Others might argue that, but she knows exactly what she's about.

"Lydia and I'm on of the Red Court teachers here."

You could say it's familiar territory.

[ She'd rather admit that than how this was meant to be her 'easy' class, so not every single one was stressful. It wasn't as if she'd learn nothing, as her 'familiarity' was almost exclusive to the south region and a few 'imports', but this was more a touchstone to the past. Something she fondly speaks of while focusing on the sketching and notes. ]

Identifying, collecting, preparing for use right away or for something later... I used to have a small book to go by when I was younger for all of this as well.

[ She's actually going over to look into the bucket to check and make sure they fully stopped. Nothing to latch to, no nutrients to reach for, safe one another. She even sticks a hand into the bucket to nudge the cuttings to make sure they didn't latch to each other. ]

If it's about speed, maybe both the wash tubs and buckets? The latter are easier to carry around, but the tubs will give places to safely empty them for the time. That and for longer sections of vines collected. Though I'd section those to be safe...

[ Nothing with these mangled bits, but the growth was so aggressive. ]

[Sarah is still as much of an avid bookworm as she was as a child. More so perhaps now that she really has all the time in the world to read in between classes and the like. She's not a stranger to the library and least and neither is her arriving with a stack of books.

She glances at the stack Erwin is already sorting out, expression curious.]

Busy as usual?

If she heard the rumors and found that she got more conversation and engagement than most, then Eden would consider it a kind of fortunate event instead. While listening, there's something in her eyes that soften up a bit. The 'path of course' thing was not so different to the talks her grandmother gave. Obviously the subject matter was different, but it's what the Foundling took from it. Will Graham cared quite a lot about this.

"I know no one in Black Court will want to, so this isn't going to lead into asking for that... Have you ever taken a novice? It sounds like you'd be good at it."

Probably not the statement that was expected tonight. Well, not from an incoming novice. Yet it answered more than when she asked if Will liked teaching. He was probably good at it.
