DEC TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to the Undying Court Test Drive Meme! This post will allow players to test drive their AU characters in the setting, as well as meet fresh faces or even connect with those they have preexisting CR with. As with anything involved in the setting, this post will likely contain: violence, enthrallment, torture, and sexual content.

Regarding continuity, all TDM threads can be taken as in-game canon if desired. Please keep in mind that the game proper will begin in mid December, in the Winter Season, so Students/Novices should create their prompts under the assumption that the TDM takes place during the season prior to the one they will be apping as. This means that students planning to app as first season novices will be visiting Castle Courtsheart prior to their Beginning. In other words, if you plan to app a student as a second season, the TDM will take place during their first, and so on.

NEW ARRIVALS

New arrivals will be starting their first season in the winter, but they're welcomed to the castle early, under the watchful eyes of the Silver Court. Upon arrival, they will be shown to a room by a human whose eyes glow softly from within, with vacant smiles. Thralls. There, the human thralls will draw them a bath and bring them new clothes to wear to their first meeting. These are rich, expensive things made of high quality fabric. Whether it's a silk dress and a heavy velvet cowl, or a fine pants and a vest made from a brocade, the servants will provide. The new initiate's old clothes will be burned after, in a symbol of the life they are leaving behind. If they are hungry, they will be provided food. If they need anything at all, they need only ask their new servants.

Later that night they are taken to a grand hall, with high arched ceilings and candles burning in chandeliers. There are figures painted overhead, beautiful and entwined. Some have their eyes are colored to match the courts, others are gracefully placed in their death, with blood dripping from necks and wrists.

Balconies line the hall behind a forest of pillars, and vampires all watch as the group walk through (some more hungrily than others).

"Welcome to your first undying season, initiates," a pale, silver-haired vampire calls. They have silver eyes are clad in silver robes, but command the attention of everyone in attendance. They have a beauty that seems neither male nor female. They are standing at the center of a wide semi-circle of other vampires, "As the Silver Court's acting voice at this end of the Autumn season, allow me to introduce you to the Houses that will be your new homes."

The vampire, Revar, gives the newcomers an overview of all of the courts—Blue, Red, Gold, Silver, and Black—and then invites those already claimed by their Courts to join the vampires who will be their Makers.

Revar offers the Foundlings who are left a gentle, knowing smile, and then allows them to be chosen. They are like the last sheep left at the auction, and the vampires who take them may not be the enthused about it. Nevertheless, Revar waits patiently until all have found a maker.

Now that they are paired up it is expected—indeed, required—that the initiate drink from their maker. That is their Beginning. Only once they have truly begun can they can be considered novices.

AUTUMN NOX

Silver Court is in season and for the Autumn Nox it holds a large symposium, inviting all the best vampire minds from around lands nearby and far. The whole castle is abuzz with new activity. The stables are packed full of horses, carriages litter the grounds, but somehow the castle has enough rooms to house all the new arrivals.

Novices will find that some of these vampires have not seen a human-novice in a very, very long time. These vampires might see the human-novices more like specimens, curious about their every move. They won't bite, but novices may find themselves observed as they wander the castle and its grounds.

The symposium itself is open to anyone at the castle. Scholars can present on any topic at all. Novices will find that these range from the incredibly mundane (you've always wanted to attend a history of bottom-feeding river fish, haven't you?) to the truly fascinating (new insights into how vampire hearts work) to the downright strange (the symposium has a range of lectures very close to dawn about the sharing of vampire...fluids). Seasoned novices with their own Autumn classes to attend are expected to keep up with their studies, but some teachers may let them out of a session to attend the lectures and workshops of the symposium.

The Silver Court vampires are incredibly busy between running the symposium and trying to help the new novices get settled in. They may need some volunteers to lend a hand with setting up rooms or helping scholars find their way around. In fact, volunteers might find themselves leading scholars down to the second kitchen for a bite to eat, a strong reminder that even these demure learners are still monsters who must drink blood.

PUMPKINS-GONE-WILD

The symposium isn't all that the autumn season brings. The Silver Court’s talents are on display in other ways—sometimes not in ways another had particularly hoped. An overly zealous youngblood in the Silver Court tried to grow a few extra pumpkins for the occasion and ended up with a few too many! The pumpkin vines break out of the green house and start sprouting pumpkins everywhere. These are no ordinary pumpkins, they will sprout and grow and become fully formed in the course of a night. Better keep an eye out for those vines or else your room might become full of pumpkins! Luckily, the pumpkins aren’t rotting any time soon (they’ll last until winter, or so the Silver Court vampires are saying), but it can be pretty inconvenient for them to grow everywhere. Start cutting those vines to pieces, and hope they don’t try to entangle you in the process.

LIBRARY CLEAN-UP

Meanwhile, with all the scholars in town are making a mess of the library, much to the Silver Court vampire’s dismay. Books are being checked out and not checked back in, passed around from scholar to scholar. You might find those lost books just about anywhere. Who was reading in a tree? Anyone who collects the books and returns them to the library is sure to get a little bit of favor with the librarians, and it’s never a bad thing to have a bit of an in with a Court. If you’re worried about failing Silver Court, it’s time to get searching! Although how you’re going to convince a 300 year old vampire that time is not fake and that deadlines are real (and in fact were two days ago) is anyone’s guess.

UNETHICAL EXPRIMENTS

[CW: Torture, experiments]

Those who venture towards the basement might hear something a little different than normal. The thralls who spend their time down there are normally quiet, commanded to keep silent and pleasant for the vampires they serve. But with the arrival of the new scholars comes disquieting, inhuman screams from the darker reaches of the basement. Novices trying to catch a glimpse will be chased away, but teachers might be invited to watch as these vampires experiment on one another, all in the name of science. What’s a little torture, when you’re undying?

... How about the second change?

[ Given her grey eyes, and her gut feeling (more what other teachers had said while waiting, in-between the times she's been absorbed in looking at the various details,) one could imagine why that wouldn't seem like as much of a transformation.

Not everyone can have cool changes in their eyes, Mr Pride. She wants something that was more obviously tracked in her own case. ]

[Maria quite literally starts at the sound of Reyson's voice. She'd be more shocked if she didn't somewhat recognize the voice.

She turns, open book still held between her hands. In the next moment to snaps the book shut.]

Yes, of course! I was just ... checking this one. To see if I wanted to borrow it.

[That isn't wholly untrue either!]

Are we speaking from experience, or just words of wisdom here?

[It's said with a laugh, because he knows he has no leg to stand on here. He doesn't know shit about toxins and really, that's not something he plans to focus on.

The interesting thing about all of this is that Eden seems very comfortable with her suggestions and her answers, which just makes Aurinn raise a brow. He absolutely knows what she's implying, and he can't help but lean in a little towards her face, grin curling up further in the corners of his mouth.]

I suppose it would, wouldn't it? You don't happen to know anyone who would be willing to volunteer as a sort of help, would you?

[He's an absolute menace when he teases someone.]

I was just told it could be a risk for anyone.

[ Thanks, Revar. Between two very different vampires, Eden had a shadow of concern about both her past and future.

There's also something else that happens when you bring yourself to the level of someone raised in the Southern/Red region, and tease them. With a smile as sweet as the pumpkin pies that'll be getting made until the Winter Solstice, Eden leaned in closer, going up on her feet enough to be closer to an ear. Just enough so the heat of her breath could be felt. ]

You're pretty cute, so I think you won't have any issues... Especially if you ask.

[ Not that she's done much so far, but the same smile was there. ~~Who's the menace?~~ Really, the teen's just gotten good at bluffing. ]

Isn't it? I've never seen half as many books in my life.

[Her face lights up as she talks about it. She's not necessarily a bookworm but that's been mostly because she lacked the resources to be. Or the free time to be honest.]

Her smiles is light. A little conversation certainly makes her feel more comfortable. She's blessed with not being shy in the least when it comes to speaking with relative strangers -- or crowds for that matter.

"You can only prepare so far in your own mind. It does do a lot of good to plan and prepare but until things turn into action you never quite know how you will respond."

Sarah settles down in a nearby seat for the moment with a laugh of her own. "Oh god no."

Okay that might have sounded a little harsh. Let her back it up a touch.

"The rest of my family were the musical ones. I can only just carry a tune to be honest." Here she tilts her head with an amused look. "Or so I've been told. Whether it was the truth or not, well..."

I'll be sure to keep that in mind.

[Oh, Eden's a keeper. Aurinn actually can't stop himself from laughing at that, breaking any sort of charm he may have had a moment ago. Anyone who goes toe to toe with him is someone he's going to have to keep an eye on for the future. He actually steps back and suppresses another chuckle under his breath, a little fascinated with how she keeps up with him.]

Aurinn. Aurinn Laurentius, to be exact, but the last name really doesn't matter to me.

Well, if last names don't matter so much, then I'm Eden.

[ She'll back up and start heading the way of the lecture hall that Rosie's 'lesson' was going to be. Just with walking backwards for a bit to see if Aurinn would follow along. ]

So with that laugh just now, were you just seeing if you'd get me blushing off into a corner?

Are the lotus tanks in the greenhouse yours? They're very nice. I've heard lotus roots are a nutritious food, too. Well, nutritious human food.

[The castle facilities aren't “anyone’s”, but over the years, vampires with a special interest in one thing or another come to be associated with that thing as if it were theirs. Elias doesn't go to the greenhouses often, so he thinks of it as his courtmates’ favored domain.

Noticing Tighnari’s shift in posture, he adds:] Had a long night?

[Here's one such Novice who has opted to ignore the fact that her kind aren't meant to be down here, even if she is fast approaching her fourth season. While she has her own reasons for trying to catch a glimpse of what the Silver Court scholars are up to, she certainly can't disagree with Astarion's observations, and gives a soft snort in reply.]

I suppose they believe they can get away with anything so long as they say it's for the sake of research.

[Pretentious, the lot of them.]

I will say, I'm quite curious. You've not gone in to take a look for yourself?

[Shadowheart almost finds his enthusiasm endearing, and turns her attention to him for a moment as she breaks from watching the new arrivals make their wide-eyed way into the hall, offering him a saccharine smile.]

They lose a bit of their luster, after the first, but it is interesting to see who may be joining us here.

[Approaching her fourth season, she's seen a few arrivals by now, but hardly so many to merit how jaded she currently sounds.]

Is it thrilling, knowing you'll no longer be among our youngest?

[For just a moment, she looks quite pleased with herself, though she quickly schools her expression to something far more neutral and disciplined in the moments that follow. Just her luck that it was Diluc who happened to be standing guard; she can't say that any other teacher would have let her past, but she knows he has a healthy amount of respect for just how hard she's worked to come as far as she has.

She nods her thanks, slipping through the door behind him and proceeding to do as he says, remaining close to the back wall and in the shadows, allowing his larger frame to obscure her slightly as she follows closely.]

You almost seem bored.

[He's seen more than his share of these already, it would seem. She keeps her voice low, barely above a whisper.]

I would think you would be a touch more invested.

[She nods her confirmation, dropping her gaze back to her notes just long enough to add bits of his descriptions to her notes, just as her fellow students do. Ever the overachiever when it comes to her studies and training, she looks quite satisfied with herself, though she can hear a fellow novice somewhere behind her grumbling under his breath regarding her having answered so quickly.]

It should be noted that while it has no alchemic properties, it is edible should a situation occur where one is stranded in the wild without food, but perhaps only as a last resort. In an emergency situation, leaving at least half of the cluster behind would be sufficient for preservation.

[She's not earning herself popularity points with the grumbler, but other students seem to be taking note of her expanded answer, as well.

['They' being the Silver Court, who she doesn't seem to be terribly impressed.]

As though they have a monopoly on learning, despite the fact that learning is the very thing we're all here to do. I wouldn't worry too much about the 'or else.' A light scolding at best.

[Elias nods.]

Revar would know the best course of action.

[Not necessarily, but no one could fault Karma for any lapse in due diligence they consulted the acting representative of Silver Court. Thus his line of questioning comes to an end, and with his curiosity sated- if only for the moment- Elias’ serious expression begins to relax into something more casual, something softer.]

Where will you be-

[Well, his face relaxes for about ten seconds before a new scream from a different vampire bursts out from the locked room behind them. Elias startles, then winces; briefly breaking eye contact with Karma to look past her at the door. At least this implies the last guy was stabilised fine without needing him.]

…where will you be heading off to after this?

I'm fine.

[ it's an awfully quick response—maybe a little too quick to be believable. or maybe it's just because he hates talking about his feelings? either way, he doesn't seem to have any intention of elaborating.

not right this moment, anyway. ]

How are you feeling? No crippling regret? You're running out of time to change your mind about all this.

[ it's just that he still has no goddamn idea what Erwin sees in him. it's honestly mystifying. ]

[ Soma jumped slightly when his book was suddenly closed, only dimly aware of the rant going on over his head. He was silent for a moment, as if he were seriously taking in what Reyson was saying, before: ]

You made me lose my place.

[ There's a slight hint of annoyance in his voice, but he still doesn't look up. Instead, he grabbing the book again, trying to find what he was reading again. ]

[ It's on one of Soma's many trips through the books that he ends up having to look up. Wasn't that one of the teachers...? Why wouldn't she just take the book back herself? ]

[ Whatever, it wouldn't hurt to bring it back; he held his hand up. ]

Let it go; I'll grab it.

[Oh, look, it's a sucker and she's rolling over onto her back to look over her side with the book still dangling.]

Nothing around here is ever for free~ You have to do something for me first, nothing difficult, I promise.

[ Oh boy, he should have known there would be a catch. His arm lowered slightly, a worried look coming to his face. ]

...aren't I already doing you a favor by returning the book?

[There always is with her and probably most of the Red Court teachers, for that matter.]

That's the boring part of it, yes. [Already contradicting herself, but that's fine and normal.]

I'll be nice, I guess, since you seem to be really new. Are you going to be one of the droll types that blushes and sputters when the inevitable matter of sex comes up or are you going to actually understand how useful of a tool it is?~ Be honest, I'll know. [Not really, but she can pretend.]

[ Soma was still processing everything -- from being dressed nicer than he had in his life, to drinking someone else's blood -- that suddenly being spoken to caught him by surprise. He stared at Kirk for a moment, as if checking to make sure he actually meant to speak to him, before he let out a faint noise, absently wiping at his lips. ]

I didn't think it was that bad.

[ There was no need for Soma to attempt at lying about it; there was already a faint hint of pink to his face, and he sputtered slightly, already dreading where this was going. ]
