DEC TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to the Undying Court Test Drive Meme! This post will allow players to test drive their AU characters in the setting, as well as meet fresh faces or even connect with those they have preexisting CR with. As with anything involved in the setting, this post will likely contain: violence, enthrallment, torture, and sexual content.

Regarding continuity, all TDM threads can be taken as in-game canon if desired. Please keep in mind that the game proper will begin in mid December, in the Winter Season, so Students/Novices should create their prompts under the assumption that the TDM takes place during the season prior to the one they will be apping as. This means that students planning to app as first season novices will be visiting Castle Courtsheart prior to their Beginning. In other words, if you plan to app a student as a second season, the TDM will take place during their first, and so on.

NEW ARRIVALS

New arrivals will be starting their first season in the winter, but they're welcomed to the castle early, under the watchful eyes of the Silver Court. Upon arrival, they will be shown to a room by a human whose eyes glow softly from within, with vacant smiles. Thralls. There, the human thralls will draw them a bath and bring them new clothes to wear to their first meeting. These are rich, expensive things made of high quality fabric. Whether it's a silk dress and a heavy velvet cowl, or a fine pants and a vest made from a brocade, the servants will provide. The new initiate's old clothes will be burned after, in a symbol of the life they are leaving behind. If they are hungry, they will be provided food. If they need anything at all, they need only ask their new servants.

Later that night they are taken to a grand hall, with high arched ceilings and candles burning in chandeliers. There are figures painted overhead, beautiful and entwined. Some have their eyes are colored to match the courts, others are gracefully placed in their death, with blood dripping from necks and wrists.

Balconies line the hall behind a forest of pillars, and vampires all watch as the group walk through (some more hungrily than others).

"Welcome to your first undying season, initiates," a pale, silver-haired vampire calls. They have silver eyes are clad in silver robes, but command the attention of everyone in attendance. They have a beauty that seems neither male nor female. They are standing at the center of a wide semi-circle of other vampires, "As the Silver Court's acting voice at this end of the Autumn season, allow me to introduce you to the Houses that will be your new homes."

The vampire, Revar, gives the newcomers an overview of all of the courts—Blue, Red, Gold, Silver, and Black—and then invites those already claimed by their Courts to join the vampires who will be their Makers.

Revar offers the Foundlings who are left a gentle, knowing smile, and then allows them to be chosen. They are like the last sheep left at the auction, and the vampires who take them may not be the enthused about it. Nevertheless, Revar waits patiently until all have found a maker.

Now that they are paired up it is expected—indeed, required—that the initiate drink from their maker. That is their Beginning. Only once they have truly begun can they can be considered novices.

AUTUMN NOX

Silver Court is in season and for the Autumn Nox it holds a large symposium, inviting all the best vampire minds from around lands nearby and far. The whole castle is abuzz with new activity. The stables are packed full of horses, carriages litter the grounds, but somehow the castle has enough rooms to house all the new arrivals.

Novices will find that some of these vampires have not seen a human-novice in a very, very long time. These vampires might see the human-novices more like specimens, curious about their every move. They won't bite, but novices may find themselves observed as they wander the castle and its grounds.

The symposium itself is open to anyone at the castle. Scholars can present on any topic at all. Novices will find that these range from the incredibly mundane (you've always wanted to attend a history of bottom-feeding river fish, haven't you?) to the truly fascinating (new insights into how vampire hearts work) to the downright strange (the symposium has a range of lectures very close to dawn about the sharing of vampire...fluids). Seasoned novices with their own Autumn classes to attend are expected to keep up with their studies, but some teachers may let them out of a session to attend the lectures and workshops of the symposium.

The Silver Court vampires are incredibly busy between running the symposium and trying to help the new novices get settled in. They may need some volunteers to lend a hand with setting up rooms or helping scholars find their way around. In fact, volunteers might find themselves leading scholars down to the second kitchen for a bite to eat, a strong reminder that even these demure learners are still monsters who must drink blood.

PUMPKINS-GONE-WILD

The symposium isn't all that the autumn season brings. The Silver Court’s talents are on display in other ways—sometimes not in ways another had particularly hoped. An overly zealous youngblood in the Silver Court tried to grow a few extra pumpkins for the occasion and ended up with a few too many! The pumpkin vines break out of the green house and start sprouting pumpkins everywhere. These are no ordinary pumpkins, they will sprout and grow and become fully formed in the course of a night. Better keep an eye out for those vines or else your room might become full of pumpkins! Luckily, the pumpkins aren’t rotting any time soon (they’ll last until winter, or so the Silver Court vampires are saying), but it can be pretty inconvenient for them to grow everywhere. Start cutting those vines to pieces, and hope they don’t try to entangle you in the process.

LIBRARY CLEAN-UP

Meanwhile, with all the scholars in town are making a mess of the library, much to the Silver Court vampire’s dismay. Books are being checked out and not checked back in, passed around from scholar to scholar. You might find those lost books just about anywhere. Who was reading in a tree? Anyone who collects the books and returns them to the library is sure to get a little bit of favor with the librarians, and it’s never a bad thing to have a bit of an in with a Court. If you’re worried about failing Silver Court, it’s time to get searching! Although how you’re going to convince a 300 year old vampire that time is not fake and that deadlines are real (and in fact were two days ago) is anyone’s guess.

UNETHICAL EXPRIMENTS

[CW: Torture, experiments]

Those who venture towards the basement might hear something a little different than normal. The thralls who spend their time down there are normally quiet, commanded to keep silent and pleasant for the vampires they serve. But with the arrival of the new scholars comes disquieting, inhuman screams from the darker reaches of the basement. Novices trying to catch a glimpse will be chased away, but teachers might be invited to watch as these vampires experiment on one another, all in the name of science. What’s a little torture, when you’re undying?

There's definitely trauma there. Not that there isn't in the Blue Court lands, but... acting like Satoru does, amongst the Gold pricks and their stuffiness? Doesn't sound like a good time by Ed's estimation.

All the more reason to help Satoru forget about that shit whenever he can. Which is easy, because he's the kind of guy even someone like Edward can forget their own trauma around, at least for a bit. He opens the office door, only to turn around with a wide grin and bounce excitedly back to Satoru. "You... are a fucking genius! Incredible plan. Inspired, even." Ed grips his shoulder and claps his back, like it's not enough of a compliment without the added touch, before he calms and walks with Satoru the rest of the way side by side.

Then I'm sure the librarians will value your assistance.

[ And... he went right back to reading. ]

Ah, so some of them love it. Too much, like the humans she's heart about going on killing sprees? There was a story about a string of murders that were committed by a single person. "Do you think they're moody because they want to hunt their own kind and novices as well? Or are they worried about getting that far? If they love it, then why act the way they do?"

Otherwise, what was the point of pushing people away with those attitudes? In some ways, the idea of it being a nutrition deficiency felt more 'right.' Maybe if the thralls had some desserts or something sweet more often, it'll improve their disposition... That was a guess she'd have to ask a teacher in her own court about, or her maker.

Longest nights of the year, too. Summer nights are so short!

[ It's hard to get anything done before you have to flee and hide in the dark, really. ]

[ Some things you learn the smell of pretty early, even as a human. Sometimes it was the lack of certain aromas. Give it a little bit- she arrived a bit before you after all, Soma. Maybe not by much, but you can't rush these things. ]

Definitely. I imagine a lot of them can get really carried away with their research. My maker is like that...

Yes, I've only been here for a couple days.

[ He paused a moment, glancing around. ]

It's really... nothing like where I used to live.

Getting inspiration from the night.

[ he leads them out to a nice little spot under a tree and sits down ]

[ Soma is very cute, and the white hair lends an air of maturity. The faint smile that comes to his face isn't even enough to betray how young he is. ]

Have there been any novices that have shared blood?

"It's a bit out there, but I have faith in us," Satoru says sagely. "If anybody can pull off an underwear heist, it's us."

On the way to the library, he regales Ed with a story about one of his latest entrancement classes and how a novice had mind controlled another novice into thinking he was a mosquito -- it had been particularly funny watching the novice try to bite everyone he came close to. Almost as funny as his stories about his hand to hand combat classes and the occasional limb removal that happens within.

Upon getting to the library, Satoru opts to sneakily peer around the doorway instead of just walking right in. "Okay, which librarian was it?" he asks in a stage whisper. "The one with all the hair? Or the one that's carrying all those books?"

I would have easily let you. It's a good thing you didn't ask.

[ He smiles as Fenris touches him. There was a time where touch was hard for him, but not any longer. And certainly, it had never been difficult with Fenris. He leans into the touch, closing his eyes for a moment as he imagines it. Then he opens his eyes again and turns his head so he can kiss Fenris's palm. ]

Besides, it'll be sweeter to have you all to myself now.

[ He says it like that's unfortunate!! ]

Why are they hoping to turn so many anyway? This is more than enough to appease the humans into thinking they might get something nice eventually.

[ Buddy....you were one of those humans once. ]

[ The thrilling flash of pain as Izzy bites him is there and gone in an instant, quicker than a spider's bite and with half the force. He's holding back, and Ed doesn't have to read his thoughts to know it. That's what Izzy does. Writhes but resists. Wants to, but doesn't. Wishes, but won't. Ed sighs between one bloody kiss and the next. ]

Have to do everything myself.

[ He grumbles, but gluts himself on Izzy at the same time by bringing both his hands to Izzy's cheeks and cradling his jaw, holding him gently as he likes while he bites his own lip. The blood dripping in rivulets, mostly inwards rather than down his chin, is clearly visible for Izzy to see, to tease and entice during the long moment it takes for Edward's sluggish veins to pump a good amount of his blood to pooling in his own mouth. Once there's a decent amount, though, Edward doesn't hesitate, but smoothly leans in to seal their mouths together again, and feeds it to Izzy from his tongue. ]

Just a fragile little flower... Yes, Xenk knows exactly how fragile Satoru's ego is. But he's at least pleased to see Satoru gives him an honest response. It's always difficult to tell how much of it is true, but Xenk they are from the same Court, after all.

So of course Satoru finishes off his nearly honest words with a very sarcastic remark. Pinching his cheek?

"Love has no bearing in it." Xenk swats the hand away, glowering. "The will learn or they will fail. But it should be on their actions, not ours, to determine their fates."

It is the singular shame of Summer.

[ He's gotta give him that!!! ]

But we are fortunate that much of the castle is insulated from the outdoors.

Well, it would be a real shame to wake up too early and burn in your own bed.

[ Lots of rooms did have windows but that's what canopy beds and black out curtains are for. ]

Such incidents have only occurred very scarcely in the last few years.

[ He can't deny it either... But he sounds almost petulant about this, because. Because it's really on them at that point. It's hardly Gold Court's fault that the sun is there. ]

Anyone irresponsible enough to fall asleep without confirming their curtains cannot be expected to last long, in any case.

[ Puts his hand in front of the page. ]

If you want to tie me up, darling, you need only ask.

[ Astarion is still himself always! ]

[UwU Yes Kirk has the biggest praise kink.]

I'm curious... what will you do if I do?

[He leans forward, eyes squinting a little as he squares his shoulders, challenging in return.]

What if I don't meet these expectations? You seem to have high hopes for me and I've done almost nothing to earn it. What gives you any faith in a lay-about like me, hm?

[Afterall, Kirk has done little to show he's trying, except he's in seven classes and clubs, yet somehow aces all of them and finds time to look like he's done nothing.]

[Lucky for her he wasn't a mind reader yet. He would be one day, but not yet. For the moment, he just watches her carefully while he eats, reading her body language well enough. One learns how to survive people by watching them, reading them, understanding them. Maybe that's why he did so good in his Gold and Red courses.

The mention of the heart racing gets him to raise an eyebrow, smirking at her. Well then, he can help get her heart racing. Not that he says it yet, but he definitely thinks it. ]

Nothing off the top of my head... I don't know in what ways we change when we... well, change. I just want to remember this feeling. Like you mentioned, racing hearts, sweating bodies, panting breaths -- I want to remember what it means to need to breath and be alive.

[He shrugs and gives her a smile before he pokes at his pie some.]

[ It'll be quite a time when lessons do go that far. Eden's taken that advice to heart.

Even without blushing up a storm, and keeping that smile as sweet as it normally was, her words certainly weren't the only signs of interest. ]

Ah, right. They don't even need to breathe. It's probably just habit and more a sign of intensity for them...We should remember to make time to have those experiences. Enough so they last.

[ There's a small pull of the smile, a faint hint on the cheeks snitching on some of those thoughts. Something to just... Take another bite of pie. Mm. Yes. Pie good. ]

Every breath, heart beat, taste... There's a lot to commit to memory.

[There is something about how he says his name like that... It makes his heart clench in a way he can't help but wonder if that too will go away one day. Kirk might think of a lot of people as stepping stones in his goals -- goals that Edgin knew about because Kirk didn't hide anything from him -- but Edgin wasn't one of them.

The vampire was to him like a father, one he never had. He can't stop how he looks down for a second to look at Edgin's hands. Watching them closely for a long moment, He felt close to tears and he's not sure why, but he takes a breath that one day he won't need, fortifying himself emotionally before meeting those blue eyes with his own. Would his be the same blue one day?

Hearing his voice again, he looks up at Edgin and nods, trying to smile right back.]

No, I haven't had a lot of meat in my life, maybe I should order some for dinner tonight. See if it's as good at you say. [He grins before it fades into something softer.] And..

[He pauses as he reaches over to rest a hand on Edgin's shoulder for a second, giving it a squeeze when really he wants to hug him. But that was too sentimental right? He was supposed to be flirting with him, not crying on his shoulder. ]

Edgin.. Well, thank you. For a lot of things. I'll do my best and make you proud.

I heard of it, but we're still human for the most part so really, I think it's considered taboo? Not that it can't happen, but it's definitely not encouraged.

[He tilts his head at him, curious grin on his face.]

Why? Want a taste?

Soon, for sure then. And I will keep you in mind anytime I need help. [She leans forward, kissing him on the cheek, not minding how some of her lipstick leaves behind a mark.

Giving him a smile, she waves her fingers before making her way out of the library.

She was already thinking of all the fun things they could do next time they meet up, which she knew would be very soon. It was not often that she look forward to such things, but today she was definitely in the right mood to feel the thrill of excitement at having caught such a cute prey to play with later.]

I simply happen to be where I teach my courses. Yes, what strange happenstance.

[He doesn't stop how he glares at Xenk at that, knowing the man is straightforward, but he knew there was a good chance of running into Fenris here. He doesn't doubt the man knows the course schedule too and was fully aware that Fenris would be done with his classes by now.

There is a chance that perhaps he thought Fenris would be gone by this point, but cleaning and caring for the weapons was part of his duties, so it was unlikely again.

Fenris looks away again, clearly not afraid of Xenk in the slightest.]

Silver Court needs to get the pumpkin situation underhand, it's becoming bothersome.
